Bottom half of a monument to Vittorio Emanuele II located in the Riva degli Schiavoni in Venice. The monument is made by Roman sculptor Ettore Ferrari in 1887.
Vittorio Emanuele II (1820-1878) was the King of Sardinia-Piedmont and was the first King of united Italy. He is known for the acquisition of Venetia through war on the side of Bismarck’s Prussia in 1866 and the acquisition of Rome after the withdrawal of the French garrison in 1870.
