The Roman Hunter God
The Hunter god is one of Southwark’s most iconic pieces. Dating from around 150 AD this sculpture is thought to blend several different deities and may be an example of local artisans trying to copy the style (and gods) of Roman occupiers. The piece was excavated from a well under Southwark Cathedral in 1977 and donated to the Cuming museum. A replica is on show at the Cathedral and along with 5 companion pieces (also on this site) it is hoped to exhibit the Roman finds over the long term. Thanks to Tom Flynn and Gary Black for producing this 3D object.
