The individual PAY05 368 is a male aged at being over 46 years old, & identified as an older adult. From macroscopic analysis of the skeletal elements present, he not only had the classic vertebral bone changes characteristic of DISH but also other degenerative changes identified as possibly a seronegative arthropathy. DISH is more often observed in males & skeletal studies have researched potential causes, including diet with a high meat content, lifestyle & genetics. Only 5 other adults had DISH. The skeletal remains of this male were found during excavations of a Bow Baptist cemetery in Payne Road, London which closed in 1853. The burials were well organised, had associated written resources as well as number of individuals having biographical details. This is interesting when able to see parish cause of death & Death Certification from 1837. A Museum of London Archaeology Monograph 64, discusses the individuals health & social conditions in comparison with two other excavated sites from Tower Hamlets.
