Tudor Floor cutaway
A section of a scan of the Tudor Floor uncovered beneath the Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, with audio commentary by Jane Sidell, Inspector of Ancient Monuments at Historic England. A scan showing the context of the discovery can be found [here.](http://bit.ly/2zvvs3M)
The find was uncovered in summer 2017 during careful preparation of the floor for the new visitor centre beneath the Painted Hall. The area uncovered includes a glazed tile floor and a subterranean room containing a series of unusual niches, which archaeologists believe may be ‘bee boles’ for the keeping of skeps (hive baskets) during the winter months when the bee colonies were hibernating.
