More model informationThis artifact from Abercrombie Park is made from a gastropod columella (central axis of a spiral shell), and would have been used as a sinker or plummet. It is a common artifact at coastal archaeological sites of all periods like those in St. Petersburg’s parks. They were attached to fishing lines or nets, although nicely made examples and those made of exotic materials (metamorphic rock, copper, and rock crystal) may have been used for personal adornment.
