3D animation of the cranial kinesis mechanism of an adult scarlet macaw skull (Ara macao, OUVC 10633). Ryan Ridgely generated the animation using inverse kinematics in Maya, based on the 3D model that WitmerLab PhD student James Nassif assembled from the µCT-scan data. Ryan also used for reference our video of cranial kinesis in a hyacinth macaw (http://bit.ly/2aeTamz). For more 3D content on this macaw, check out the Visible Interactive Parrot site: http://bit.ly/1UziNv7. There you’ll find 3D PDFs for download that provide comparable content to what’s here, but allowing the user more control. Funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
