Lightning Whelk3D Model
The Busycon whelk, also known as Busycon sinistrum, is characterized by its left-handed or sinistral shell. This species can be found in sandy or muddy areas along shallow embayments and prey on smaller bivalves. The archaeological record indicates that this species was important to Native Americans, as left-handed lightning whelks provided an essential food resource. Furthermore, their shells were crafted into tools and ornaments and were also used as containers for ceremonial drinks.
