This boxwood écorché ( a drawn or sculpted model showing the body with the skin removed to reveal the muscle structure) and a miniature ivory skeleton were presented to the University Library in 1591 by John Banister, a leading London surgeon who delivered lectures to the Barber-Surgeons’ Company and published a number of influential treatises. This object modelled as part of a collaboration between The Cambridge University Library, Dr Suzanne Paul (Keeper of Manuscripts and University Archives), Maciej M Pawlikowski (Chief Photographic Technician), and Prof. Dominic Powlesland (Affiliated Scholar, McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research)
