Auguste Rodin.
Marble.
In the Rodin Museum, Paris, France.
“The Man with the Broken Nose” is a marble bust carved by Leon Fourquet, after a design and plaster cast by Auguste Rodin. The man who sat for the original cast was an elderly workman from the Saint-Marcel district of Paris.
The emphasized and, perhaps, slightly exaggerated features make this less a portrait and nearly an archetype, evoking the classical busts of ancient philosophers which Rodin had no doubt seen and studied.
