British No 4 Mk. II Bayonet Holder (VCU_3D_3824)3D ModelNoAI
This is the holder for the British No. 4 spike bayonet, designed for the Lee-Enfield rifle, was the result of 20 years worth of studies, experiments, and trials to find a lighter, simpler substitute for the old WWI-era 1907 bayonet. Many different mounting systems were tried, including folding bayonets intended to remain fixed to the rifle. While some knife-style designs were submitted, the “cruciform” spike style was the favored choice. A bit old-fashioned, almost every country in WWII had abandoned this antiquated style of bayonet, despite its effectiveness. The No. 4 spike bayonet was approved in November 1939, along with the new Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk. I rifle. Because of the simple design, the government was able to let many non-weapons help produce the bayonets. Nearly 5 million units were produced in WWII.
