Rock art panels found at the top of a granite outcrop at the site of Terekty Aulie in the Ulytau region of Qaraghandy province, central Kazakhstan. The petroglyphs are dominated by horse imagery dating to the Bronze Age (2nd millennium BCE). They have stocky bodies with heads topped by a short mane and may represent the ancient equine breed Equus ferus, which is more commonly known as the Jungarian horse, Mongolian takhi or Przewalski’s horse. Zoom into the annotation (1) to view the horses.
Model processed in Photoscan using UAV photos taken by Viktor Novozhenov, who deploys a Phantom 3 Professional drone for his rock art studies in central Kazakhstan.
