More model informationThis pestle macehead was dug up on Crantit Farm, St Ola, Mainland, Orkney in the 1920s-40s. It is a fine example of the straight-sides ‘Thames’ type of pestle and it is manufactured from an unusual type of metamorphic rock.
This artefact has been deliberately fractured by a heavy impact to centre of the front face. Chip on the butt end may indicate this blow was delivered while holding the artefact against an anvil
