More model informationFearture 236 Zone G Removed. The Berry Site (31BK22). Burke County, North Carolina. Excavated in 2018 by Warren Wilson College Field School.
Remarks: This feature represents the bottom of a large posthole. This posthole intrudes on another smaller posthole and a pit feature, both of which can be seen in the profile of Feature 236. The feature is located inside the area of the Spanish Fort San Juan, which was built in 1567 by Juan Pardo and his men. This posthole is likely from an earlier Native American occupation before the construction of the fort. The large size of the feature indicates that the posthole was dug to contain a large support post for the roof of a Native American building.
