Vajont Dam and Surrounding Areas (1963)
Information digital elevation model (DEM-I) textured with a photomap to obtain a photo 3D model (PDM) of the valleys of Piave and Vajont rivers, in Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions (Italy): the state after the disaster of 9 October 1963.
On the evening of 9th October 1963 more than 260 million m3 of rock detach from the mount Toc and fall down into the basin of Vajont dam. The landslide pushes up a wave of water that overflows on the surrounding areas: whole villages in the municipalities of Erto e Casso, Longarone and Castellavazzo were destroyed, more than 1,900 the victims.
