Old Work, Wroxeter from tourist photos on Flickr3D Model
Ever since I read Rob Barratt’s blog post about the possibility of using tourist photos as a source for photogrammetry I’ve been meaning to give it a try (https://archphotogrammetry.com/2013/08/25/working-on-the-sphinx-in-123d-catch/).
Finally got a spare evening so here’s my first attempt - the Old Work at Wroxeter, the highest freestanding Roman remains in Britain. I decided not to curate the selection of photos so just grabbed everything off Flickr that showed it, around 60 photos in all, taken in different conditions and times of year. No masking has been used, extraneous features were deleted from the dense-point cloud.
The end result is only one side of the wall - probably an idea to retry this with a more pronouncedly 3 dimensional object. Nonetheless, a simple model of the Old Work without too much work from me (groan, boom-tss, i’m here all week folks, etc).
