Bread Oven, Nenthorn Railway Camp
During summer 2014, the University of Otago archaeological field school excavated a worker’s camp on the Otago Central Railway. Dating to the late 19th century the camp served as the base for crews constructing the Nenthorn section of the railway, located between Middlemarch and the Taieri Gorge. Among the many features excavated during the field school was a large bread oven. A photogrammetric model was made of the oven, and depicts the feature close to the end of excavation.
