This Temperance Basin replicates a pewter basin by Caspar Enderlein in the Louvre, Paris. Elkington created the electrotype from a plaster cast supplied to them in around 1849 by the German archaeologist, Dr Emil Braun. Before reproduction, the titles of the silver panels were blanked out in the mould and additional detailing was added to the borders. The Ladies’ Singles Trophy at Wimbledon was electrotyped in silver from the same pattern twelve years later.
