Double Peake Shako Date: 1928
Gifted to National Postal Museum from Mr. Clifford, 31/07/1995. Ownership transferred to Postal Heritage Trust, 2004.
Postman’s double-peaked shako made of cloth covered cork. The crown and upper-peak are covered in dark blue serge wool. The top seam of the crown is trimmed with red piping. A black patent leather band runs aroudn the hat band. THe peaks edges are alos trimmed with black patent leather. Attached to front of the shako is a ‘GPO’ gold gilt brass and badge featuring a Tudor Crown and the postman’s number ‘82’. On either side ofthe shako are a pair of metal bound ventilation holes. The underside of the peaks are green. Inside is borwn soft leather handband.
