More model informationThis is a model of the 2012 U.S. presidential election map. With a 3D visualization we can combine the geographic accuracy of a traditional election map and the electoral weight shown with a cartogram. This combination would be impossible with a single 2D representation.
The states are laid out geographically as on a traditional map. The height of each state is the state’s electoral votes. The states are color coded by which candidate won the state: blue for Barack Obama and red for Mitt Romney.
