An enigmatic circle of stones close to Glovershaw quarry north of Shipley glen, West Yorkshire, England. Little is known about this structure, which appears to have first been mentioned in Cartwright Memorial Hall Museum Archaeology Group Bulletin in 1955. Other than being a ‘circle of stones’ it’s difficult to attached a monument type, because it doesn’t quite fit with a typical ‘stone circle’ or ‘ring cairn’ because of its size (3 metre diameter) . A slight dip in the centre may hint at an excavation and a slight raise to the circles south west may possibly be spoil, although without excavation this couldn’t be treated as anything other than conjecture. Within 200 metres of this ‘structure’ are several prehistoric carved rocks, two definite ring cairns and two equally enigmatic ‘ring ditches’ of uncertain provenance. A fascinating area!
