This 3D model presents a neighbourhood of ancient houses, dating to around 1200BC, within the walled town of Amara West. The model shows the architecture as discovered, with no reconstruction.
The British Museum has been undertaking research excavations at Amara West since 2008, in collaboration with the National Corporation of Antiquities and Museums. particular research interest in the role of individuals and households in shaping the layout, function and nature of the town. The neighbourhood in this model was excavated between 2009 and 2015. This model, a low-resolution render optimized for the web, is presented to convey some of the key characteristics of the town.
The model was created by Susie Green, using Agisoft Photoscan and Meshlab, using many thousands of photographs of the architecture taken in the 2013-2015 seasons
