An unusual ditch feature close to Glovershaw quarry north of Shipley glen, West Yorkshire, England.
This sub-circular ring ditch measures 15 metres x 13.5 metres and sits in an area rich in prehistoric monuments including carved rocks, ring cairns, walling and other features. Surprisingly, this feature has been written off as relatively recent, with some suggesting the circular ditch is the result of the area being used for ‘horse lunging’. This theory has been disputed by others who ride and train horses, as the shape isn’t right and ground would be quite dangerous. Interestingly, a prehistoric cup marked rock sits 2 metres inside the ring from the western edge. Given the presence of other prehistoric activity in the immediate vicinity (and another oval ring ditch) it should be worthy of further investigation before being written off.
