More model informationLifted after it fouled a deep water mooring, the timber was originally 1 foot square and sheathed in copper on three faces. This suggests that it was from underneath a ship’s structure, possibly part of the keel or stern post. It has multiple copper alloy bolts still in position and also has visible wooden ‘tree nails’. Because of the copper alloy fittings it is likely to date somewhere between the late 1700s and early 1800s, it is known that warships were constructed and broken up here during this time. Further research is underway to try to find out more, the timber is currently located on public view outside the Harbour Office at Itchenor.
