More model informationFragment of a hogback placed inside St Mary’s Church, Wycliffe (County Durham, formerly North Yorkshire). It is dated to the 1st half of the 10th century CE. The church guidebook describes it as Danish and tells us it was dug up on the north side of the church, found at a depth of 4ft 6ins, in 1801. The end-beast is a stylised head with gaping jaws and fangs. Called a bear by some, but looks like a fierce feline to me.
