Caterpillar House3D Model
Entry for the Freeform Home Design Challenge, the inspiration for this house came from nature. The curves, edges, and shapes of its envelope can be seen in a very small animal, such as an insect, the Caterpillar. In order to conceive an architecture that fulfills this inspiration, we have developed a design process that started from a rectangular prism, from which we have extracted a group of porticos that reminds the segments of a Caterpillar “body”. After that, we parametrically turned the porticos as a spiral and then applied the tridimensional loft technique to create the building envelope. The house has 699.65 square feet and around 15.75’ high (at its tallest point) by 16.40’ wide by 40.70’ long plus the exterior garden.
