SS War Knight (1918), Turbine Engine
War Knight was an American-built steamer employed to carry oil from the USA to London to aid the war effort. On 24th March 1918 it accidentally collided with another, larger oil tanker, O.B. Jennings. There were only 11 survivors.
The War Knight’s engine is one of, if not the oldest commercial marine steam turbine in UK waters. The wreck now lies in 13m of water in Freshwater Bay, Isle of Wight.
