More model informationThese human-shaped cuts into solid rock overlook the sea at the ancient chapel of St. Patrick’s, in Lancashire, Heysham. Local legend says they are ‘Viking’ graves, although we can’t be sure when they were cut, or what exactly they were used for. The niches above the heads may have held crosses, and these could represent the burial places of some very early, and very important Christians in northern England.
The graves are situated high on the top of a cliff, which was an old quarry. This means it was very hard to get good photo coverage, hence the holes in the model. A future UAV flight would add the model.
This model recorded by volunteers from Lancashire and District Heritage Group collaborating with CITiZAN, 2018.
