The Red Rock District of the Coconino Forest received the 2017 U.S. Forest Service Chief’s Award for Fostering Volunteerism and Service. This national level award acknowledges the Coconino Forest Service staff and Sedona Friends of the Forest volunteer’s development and implementation of new technologies in 1-remote area reporting of issues in the forest via smart phone applications, 2-to minimize the impact of graffiti remediation and 3-creation & application of 3d photogrammetry models in the documentation and evaluation of archaeological sites in the Forest.
