The man in chains from the dunes of Baratti
This tomb, found in the sand near the beach of Baratti, though lacking in equipment and dating features, can be related to a period before the 4th century BCE because it had been disturbed and covered by a later grave, facing the opposite way, dating back to the 4th century BCE. The man found in the sand near the beach of Baratti was, therefore, buried during the archaic or late-archaic period, between 6th and 5th centuries BCE.
The bones belonged to an adult male, aged between 35 and 44 years, 173 cm tall. The preliminary findings of anthropological analysis seem to indicate that the man was a foreigner and that his heavy constraint systems had been applied shortly before his death.
