Recently I’ve been thinking about how new tools and collaborative methods can enable us to defamiliarize our experience, and seek out alternative ways to connect as we spend more time online. I started the initiative Photographic Knitting Club, a tutorial-essay and virtual workshop about photogrammetry using devices people already own. Knitting circles are communal; but instead of yarn, we knit together images. We gather to create our own artifacts and share techniques about the craft. As an educator, looking beyond the smoothness of digital models, I would like to create spaces for stories about the objects and worlds we are reconstructing.
