This specimen was discovered near the Middle Awash site in Ethiopia. This cranium dates to approximately 160,000 years ago and (until recently) represented one of the earliest fossilized evidence of our species. Early members of our species exhibited traits similar to earlier hominins, such as more robust features of the skull (e.g., browridge), although the brain capacity for this individual is within the range of modern humans.
This cranium measures approximately 9” long x 6” high, with a width of 6”. This fossil has a cranial capacity of approximately 1,450cc.
