San Marzano Oliveto è un comune della Provincia di Asti, ricadente nella Buffer Zone UNESCO che separa le Core Zone “Nizza Monferrato e il Barbera” e la Core Zone “Canelli e l’Asti Spumante”.
The component “Nizza Monferrato and the Barbera” lies in Alto Monferrato: this area in the Province of Asti was selected within the territory of Barbera vine variety (that has been cultivated in Piedmont for more than 500 years). The perimeter of the area includes the most significant territorial portion of the production, cultural and landscape system of D.O.C.G. Barbera d’Asti.
“Canelli and Asti Spumante” area comprises 1236 vineyards altogether, primarily planted with white Muscat, 238 family-run vineyards specialized in the production of sparkling wine such as Canelli and “Cantina Sociale di Calosso”.
San Marzano is exactly in the middle of the two areas.
