Back to overview

The Sketchfab Masters are a group of super passionate and active community members. They are helping us run community activities, write tutorials and help out community members with support and feedback.

Today, meet Liz Edwards, well-known for her amazing VR Art.

Can you introduce yourself?

Hey! I’m Liz, I’m a character artist and VR artist living in Montreal. I’m from the UK and previously worked for Creative Assembly on Total War: Warhammer before moving to Canada with my wonderful partner and incredible artist, Ben Nicholas. Here I’ve been pursuing VR art seriously, working on a variety of VR projects including a series of daily VR sketches for Sketchfab and UploadVR.

VR is a wonderful tool to work with and has a ton of potential – I want to help legitimise its use as a creative tool, especially in game and film.

What is your expertise?

Illustrating in VR. I’m still figuring it out – it’s such a new medium – but it feels very natural and I’m very excited to see where I can take it and how the tools and hardware evolve with time.

My focus is on characters but I’m branching out into environments and vehicles too. I’m doing a lot of exploration at the moment and I’m really hoping my work inspires more artists to give it a go.

How do you use Sketchfab?

Sketchfab is brilliant for displaying my VR art! My work looks pretty much identical in Sketchfab to the VR software I created it in and it allows people to view my work in their web browsers – in VR if they have a headset, in 3D if they don’t. Sketchfab has played a huge role in getting my work out there. I love it.

Sketchfab is also perfect for discovering new artists! I love exploring the site and finding all kinds of amazing, inspirational work.

What will you be working on for the Sketchfab Masters?

I’ll be answering any questions the community might have about anything VR-art related, as well as making tutorials! Please let me know if there’s anything specific you’d like to to see from me, and feel free to get in touch anytime with any questions – I’m more than happy to help.
