Revit users can now upload directly to Sketchfab

Back to overview

Good news for our Arch Viz community this week. Thanks to the efforts of Emanuel Favreau from Larose McCallum Architects, Autodesk Revit now has a new plugin allowing you to upload your scenes directly to Sketchfab.

Leveraging the power of Sketchfab means architects can now easily share their Revit files with clients without the need to have Revit to open and view the models and of course gives them access to view the model from any device including mobile simply by opening a link.

    Thank you!

  • Are we able to upload models on MGA survey coordinates, or do they need to be translated back to zero?

  • Paul Chambers says:

Hi there – we did some tests with different coordinates and it works as expected. It’s not necessary to reset the coordinates to 0 before sending the Revit model to Sketchfab.

    Hi Paul,

Is there a way to walk through the house in the 3D model? Like the virtual tour of matterport?

If so, I’d be glad if you can share material with me.

  • If you have a VR headset (even Google Cardboard) you can view the model in VR by tapping/clicking the VR goggles icon and move around with teleportation.

If you want to explore with a regular web view, use the gear icon in the player to change from navigation type “Orbit” to “First Person” – then you can walk around the scene with video game WASD keys.

    Hope this helps. Have fun!

Every time I upload my Revit 2019 file to sketchfab using the new sketchfab plugin. it uploads with missing elements and geometry (such as, furniture, Walls, doors ..etc).
I tried uploading different files, and it gave me the same results. The Revit file size is 95 MB only!

I need this for revit 2021. Is it possible?

  • Myles Martin says:

Sad this addin has fallen by the waste side as its not supported in Revit 2021+. There is still nothing on the market to do what Sketchfab was doing before the Revit support went defunct. Sigh.
