Sketchfab + MTV : Open Your Eyes

Back to overview

As the United States takes part in an historic election today, we wanted to shine a light on one way that our artists and partners are using Sketchfab to facilitate new forms of political and artistic expression.

Open Your Eyes is a first-of-its-kind VR political art project, produced by MTV in partnership with Sketchfab, as part of the MTV and Viacom Next “Elect This” campaign.

For the project, young influential artists were asked to create scenes in Google Tilt Brush, inspired by important issues ranging from gun violence and rape culture to climate change, immigration and more… Sketchfab partnered with the team at MTV to host the works online, allowing young people anywhere to immerse themselves in art.

At an event hosted by MTV at Hofstra University during the first presidential debate, we provided custom cardboard headsets for attendees to experience the works, and it was exciting for people to discover Sketchfab’s potential for sharing VR creations as they were intended to be seen.

Check out this behind-the-scenes interview with one of the artists, Fabiola Lara, and view her work here:

Other featured artists include Dave Persue, Illma Gore, Hayden Zezula, JCorp, SacSix, ThankYouX, Ada Rajkovic, Jon Santos For Freedoms, Wane, and more.  Be sure to spend some time with all of the works at the MTV Open Your Eyes profile on Sketchfab.
