More model informationYork University Training excavation (2022) trench cut to secure dating evidence from a series of Anglo-Saxon cavity-floor buildings (Grubenhäuser) excavated to secure samples for Carbon Fourteen dating for a research project studying the spatial development of Anglo-Saxon domestic settlement in the Vale of Pickering, in Yorkshire.
First identified on the edge of trench 070AE and considered a possible pit; extension of the trench revealed part of a Grubenhaus with two intercutting and deep post-holes at the eastern end. Excavation recovered sufficient animal bone to secure a Radio-Carbon date, the remainder of the feature has been left undisturbed and intact.
