The Japanese considered the Type 89 to be a good AAA weapon and it had a fast rate of fire and good elevation and training speeds. Its primary shortcoming was a relatively low muzzle velocity and thus a short range and low AA ceiling. During rebuilds during the 1930s the Type 89 was used to replace many of the older AA guns which had armed capital ships and cruisers completed before 1932. During the war many ships had these guns added during refits and repairs in an effort to improve their AA defense.
This high-poly model depicts the twin mount (A1) as seen on many Imperial Japanese Navy ships like Nagato, Fuso, Ise, Kongo, Takao, etc.
