More model informationThe Fête de la Fédération is the feast celebrated July 14, 1790, the first anniversary of the taking of the Bastille, on the Champ-de-Mars in Paris. Louis XVI attends this festival and swears an oath to the Nation and the law in a climate of national unity, in the presence of the deputies of the 83 departments of the time.
A second federation took place on July 14, 1792, two years later; but the union and training that had marked the first are already giving way to mistrust. During the Hundred Days (1815), we try to renew the old federations in Paris and Brittany without result.
This event is celebrated, every July 14 since 1880, as French National Day (at the same time as the taking of the Bastille).
