This is a reconstruction and retouche of a seventeenth century ceiling of a house on the Oudestraat 115 in Kampen, the Netherlands. The ceiling was discovered twice before, once in 1931 and again in 1960. It was photographed in situ that last time, but since then parts of the ceiling have gone lost. The ceiling is currently stored in pieces, parts are missing and it is too fragile to move.
In this step, the planks have been carefully examined and analysed. Lines have been extended, colours have been brought back by means of digital overpainting. This result shows what the ceiling could look like after being placed back as a ceiling and after an intensive retouching.
Documented, reconstructed and retouched by Jasmijn Krol, student Conservation and Restoration of Historical Interiors, University of Amsterdam. This was part of her tutorial project at the 4D Research Lab.
