In the 1920s this design of brooch was given to new subscribers to Vogue magazine. The brroch depicts a lady in fashoinable dress (1920s) with a Borzoi dog on a leash.
I dug this brooch up in my garden in 1996. From around 1910 to the late 1940s a rubbish tip built up in my garden over the top of an old trackway leading to the fields. I spent much of my childhood digging holes in it whenever I had the opportunity. In 1996 we dug out about 20m3 down to track level to create a new patio. This brooch was found in an early 1930s context, even after nineteen years it remains one of my favorite objects that I have found.
I was curious to how well it would model, the impressed details of the brooch are mere fractions of a millimetre deep. I was a little suprised how bumpy the background and the scales came out, The black is printed on the scale but curiously gets through to the actual 3d model.
