古墳時代後期（６世紀初め）　高さ約５㎝

6世紀初めの榛名山の噴火で埋没した平地建物の床から出土しました。土師器の杯に赤色の顔料が２/３程度入れられており、この顔料は赤玉と同じ酸化鉄を含む赤土です。調査のために顔料を半分採取した状態です。壺や甕に顔料が入れられていた例はありますが、杯に入れられている例はあまりありません。

Bowl with red pigment, Height 5㎝ / Shibukawa City, Gunma Prefecture: This pottery dates from the the early 6th century (Kofun period). The red pigment was placed in the bowl, which was thought to be used as a container for the pigment.
