The Hoysala dynasty began around 1000 CE til about 1346 CE. During this period, many temples were built by the Hoysala rulers. This temple was commissioned during the year 1117.The Hoysala empire and its capital were invaded, plundered and destroyed in the early 14th century by Malik Kafur, a commander of Delhi Sultanate ruler Alladin Khilji.
