I was initially planning to use gradient maps to texture this. Due to time constraints and inexperience however I decided instead to use the techniques I had used a loooong time ago for my very first attempts at modelling in XSI - making use of photo reference pics and photoshop to colour and texture UVmaps. With the advantage of an additional decade of experience with the concept of 3D modelling.
