The ZTZ-99 (Type 99) is China’s first mass-produced third-generation main battle tank (MBT), developed by Norinco to modernize the PLA’s armored forces. It features a 125mm smoothbore gun with an autoloader, advanced composite/ERA armor, and a 1,500hp engine in later variants. It is considered comparable to Western tanks like the M1 Abrams.
