Kyu-Shiba Rikyu Garden located in the central Tokyo is one of the oldest feudal lord gardens still in existence. This garden is a stroll-style garden centered around a pond. This area used to be at sea level, but it was reclaimed around the Meireki era and became the garden of Tadatomo Okubo, a senior councilor in 1678. After that, it passed through several clans, and at the end of the Edo period, it became the Shibago mansion of the Kishu Tokugawa family. In 1871, it came into the possession of the Arisugawa Imperial Family, and was purchased by the Imperial Household Agency and became Shiba Rikyu. This tree stump is in the main garden.
