Relocated boulder on private land near Alwinton, Northumberland.
Referenced on the Beckensall Archive (BA) as ‘Alwinton/Newton/Clennell Cottages 3’, the record was subsequently added to ERA by NADRAP in 2008. Both the BA and NADRAP note the stone has a single cup with NADRAP Team 3 describing:
“A flat, gravestone-like panel with minimal, single cup marking. The cup is centrally placed, but very small in relation to panel size. The surface is otherwise reasonably flat and inviting. No other apparent marks elsewhere. Edges are straight and may have been quarried.”
Photogrammetry has picked up two cups linked by a groove. Other smaller depressions are also on the stone.
