Amerindian "Kai" hood from Brazil, 2016

Basketry is an artisanal activity still very much practiced in the Amazon. The introduction of new materials in recent decades has led to new and interesting forms. This hood, from Culture Mebêngôkre Kayapo, has been made from recycled plastic straps, wood, bark and cotton thread. Its shape remains that of the traditional hoods used for harvesting garden produce. It measures 74.5x29x30cm.

It comes from Brazil, State of Parà, Gorotire indigenous land, Motukôre village. It is kept at the Museum of Toulouse under the inventory number MHNT.ETH.2017.2.
