This is a prehistoric bison cranium. Bison are sacred beings to Minnesota’s first people: The Dakota. They are also sacred to other Plains American Indian tribes. I kept that in mind as I handled this specimen. Beautiful and heavy!

This cranium is on display at the at the Minneapolis/St Paul (MSP) airport Fall 2024-2025. I 3D scanned this specimen for use in educational materials and just to create a digital facsimile since the physical specimen left the museum.
