More model informationSpecimen is Apalone spinifera (UMMZ Herps 81611). Apalone spinifera, or the spiny softshell turtle, is a freshwater turtle found in central-eastern US as well as part of Canada and Mexico. Unlike most turtles, they have a soft, flat carapace with no scutes.
This specimen is accessioned at the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology, where it was CT scanned.
