More model informationBalconies are an internal extension onto an exterior surface. Being able to step outside, but still having the privacy of being inside, is what makes balconies desirable. Through a comparative study of balconies in older and newer buildings, we were able to find contrasting characteristics. Through the data collected, we discovered that the newer balconies seemed to be more spacious, whereas the older balconies seemed to be more practical and used more frequently. The attached model represents a transition from the old to the new through recesses/extensions, railings/glazing’s, openings and lengths, all affecting usage and privacy.
